The owners of a neighborhood bar in Brownsburg plan to open a restaurant in a downtown spot previously occupied by Celtic-themed bar Nine Irish Brothers.
Greg Cobb, Beverly Steele and Michael Cobb said their new venture, the Knotted Spoon Bar and Kitchen, is expected to open during the first half of September.
Nine Irish Brothers closed in December after a decade of business at Millikan on Mass, the mixed-use development that wraps around three sides of Barton Tower Apartments north of the Athenaeum.
Michael Cobb said he’s eager to welcome customers to a restaurant in the bustling Mass Ave cultural district.
“It’s a good starting spot, not having to drag people here,” Cobb said. “When you open a place in Brownsburg or Avon, you have to get people to come to that. Here, the work’s already been done.”
The restaurant’s menu will feature items such as ribs, wings and possibly protein bowls, Cobb said.
The Knotted Spoon gained approval for a beer, wine and liquor license during Monday’s meeting of Marion County’s Alcoholic Beverage Board. Cobb said about 20 employees will work at the 4,200-square-foot restaurant.
In Brownsburg, the Knotted Spoon’s ownership group operates B Squared Bar and Grill, 1430 N. Green St.
“We work real hard on the food, because you can get a cold beer anywhere,” Greg Cobb said of B Squared, where he’s been an owner since 2019.
Michael Cobb is the son of Greg Cobb and Beverly Steele, who divorced when Michael was in elementary school.
Steele previously worked in the timeshare condominium industry, while Greg Cobb previously led a company that sold pool tables, dartboards and jukeboxes.
