Systemic racism DOES NOT exist in this country, and you have not made an argument that it does. Your column is just another knee-jerk reaction to a tragic incident involving a white cop with a black criminal. This is not an example of “systemic”.
John M. Sorry this column did not convince you and while I am white and not experienced racism first hand, I have done some reading. What I read and continue to read, is that if you are black you do not have the same experience as a white person living in America. Things are NOT equal. Take some time to educate yourself. Start by reading “Between the World and Me” by Ta Nahisi Coats.
The worst kind of racist is the unintentional and uneducated one.
Read Shelby Steele, PhD, scholar on race. He explains it well. While there IS systematic racism it is not THE same as it was 50 years ago NOR is it the primary cause of black suppression today. That rests w/ the myriad of problems w/in the community. Yes, systematic racism does contribute to those problems of family and cultural mess, but its not THE primary cause. And all the blaming and shaming is nothing more than a political weapon just as race bating is on the “right”. To overcome the problems facing the black community requires a FULL and HONEST discussion and solutions aimed at the many issues of community and family decay. The ones being discussed are not the crux of the issues, hence nothing will be solved, only perpetuated.
