Medical Technology Leadership Forum, a not-for-profit think tank focused on medical devices, is relocating to Indianapolis from its home in Minneapolis, the organization announced today.

The forum will be headquartered at the Indiana University Research and Technology Corp. campus on the downtown canal, and will hold one of its three annual conferences in Indianapolis on Dec. 8 and 9.

Pending retirements of Director Susan Foote Bartlett, a University of Minnesota professor, and Chairman David Durenberger, a former Republican U.S. senator from Minnesota, sparked a reexamination of where the headquarters should be located.

Indianapolis was brought into consideration partly because of the influence of Cook Group, the Bloomington medical device maker. Cook was a founder and remains influential in the forum.

A new director will be named after the move is completed this month. The relocation is being coordinated by BioCrossroads, the not-for-profit that promotes the life sciences industry in Indiana.

The forum was launched in 1996 to generate dialogue on public policy issues of interest to the medical device and medical technology industries. Regulation, innovation and evidence-based medicine are among topics discussed with entrepreneurs, physicians, research institutions, manufacturers and other parties assembled at its gatherings.
