The Indiana Historical Society’s first major foray into museum exhibitions, the “Indiana Experience,” has been recognized by the Association of Midwest Museums.

The IHS will receive the association’s “best practices” award Oct. 7. Association President Brian Bray said in a prepared statement that the group is “impressed” with how the IHS “brought history to life.”

The “Indiana Experience,” which opened in March, is inside the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, which is also the IHS headquarters and library, at 450 W. Ohio St. Its exhibits are actually a series of interactive features: digitized historical photos that can be explored on touch screens, historical re-enactments, and a preservation lab with hands-on activities. All the experiences draw from the society’s vast archive of documents and photos.

Historical Society President and CEO John Herbst said, “We are really pleased to have this tremendous testament from our peers, which reflects the amazing efforts put forth on a regular basis by our staff, board and community advisers. Their commitment to hard work and attention to detail has made all the difference in the tremendous success of the ‘Indiana Experience.’”•
