St. Louis-based manufacturer Nidec Motor Corp. plans to close its facility in Frankfort, eliminating 94 jobs in the Clinton County community.

Nidec notified state officials of the pending shutdown in a letter this month. Employees were notified March 29.

Layoffs are expected to begin in mid-August and be complete by the end of the year.

Workers at the facility, which makes electro-mechanical timers for washing machines, are not represented by a union.

The company said it has been working with the state Department of Workforce Development’s disclocated worker unit to help employees prepare for the closure.

Frankfort is about an hour northwest of Indianapolis. The plant, built in 1962, was originally operated by Mallory Control and was occupied by Emerson Motor Co. until last year, according to the Frankfort Times.
