A horse-pulled cart carrying six children was struck by a sport-utility vehicle on a rural road in Middlebury, killing two sisters, ages 10 and 7. Three more children were airlifted to the hospital with head injuries, including at least one in critical condition. The driver of the SUV was not hurt in the crash, which also claimed the life of the horse. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
