Indianapolis Public Safety Director Frank Straub today submitted his resignation from the position, and Mayor Greg Ballard accepted it. Straub’s three-page letter of resignation enumerated many accomplishments over his 28-month tenure, but did not address reasons for his departure, which will be effective Aug. 1. The news comes a month after the department led by Straub announced a $15 million budget deficit. Straub has been criticized for hiring Altegrity Inc. to investigate police internal affairs. Altegrity is led by the man who recommended Straub for his job. A recent report shows violent crimes up 15 percent and property crime up 13 percent in Indianapolis.
