As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowRolls-Royce Corp. has scored a $183 million contract to service engines for the U.S. Army’s OH-58D Kiowa Warrior scout helicopters, the company announced Monday morning.
The British manufacturer, which produces aircraft engines and lift system components in Indianapolis, will work on the M250 engines in more than 300 Kiowa Warriors, plus an additional 200 spare engines.
Rolls-Royce said it will divide in-house duties between its operations in Indianapolis and California, with field technicians handling a small portion of the work.
The company is familiar with the aircraft. Besides manufacturing the engines, the company has placed field service representatives on more than 20 military deployments over 13 years. Currently, 23 field service representatives support 11 Kiowa Warrior units.
The Army says it uses the two-person helicopters for “armed reconnaissance, security, target acquisition and designation, command and control, light attack and defensive air combat missions in support of combat and contingency operations.”
