Pence should stand tall

Mickey Maurer’s [Aug. 18] comments on the children from Central America who are being made into a political football by people who lack compassion are spot on.

I believe it was Abraham Lincoln who said, “No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” I wish we had more “tall” political leaders in 2014. I guess it will be the religious leaders who bring the politicians along, as they did in the 1950s and ’60s on another human rights issue.
