IU sports websites The Hoosier Scoop and PEEGS.com said Wilson didn't provide a timetable, but said the project would add a new cafeteria and expand the locker rooms.
Hoosier Scoop said Wilson was answering a caller’s question football facilities when he said:
“We’re gonna start a project here that, in time, will kind of close in the south end zone. … Our infrastructure is awesome. The setup is maybe as good as anyone’s, but in the arms race you never have enough money. … Our place is awesome, but we got to keep re-investing.”
In 2009, IU finished an expansion project at Memorial Stadium that enclosed the north end of the facility. Those improvements provided additional classroom space, a weight training room, Hall of Fame and expanded seating.
The stadium holds 52,929 people but rarely sells out. The Hoosiers averaged 44,352 fans a year ago.
