As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowConexus, a statewide advanced manufacturing and logistics advocacy group, has been awarded a $3.6 million grant by Lilly Endowment Inc., officials announced Tuesday.
The two-year grant will be used in part for programs, outreach and studies aimed at advancing the state's largest industry sector. Indiana has been cited as a national leader in the high-tech field, but strong headwinds loom related to relatively low educational attainment by Hoosiers and an increasingly aging work force.
One of the programs the grant will support is Hire Technology, a two-year course sequence through which high school students can earn credentials toward advanced manufacturing careers or credits toward post-secondary education.
The grant will also support "Dream It. Do It. Indiana," an awareness initiative for careers in the sector.
“This generous Lilly Endowment grant both recognizes Conexus Indiana’s progress in building programs that address the needs of Indiana’s advanced manufacturing and logistics companies, and provides us the support to continue to reach more students with the innovative training and education opportunities we offer,” Claudia Cummings, Conexus Indiana’s vice president of education, workforce and community programs, said in written remarks.
Conexus is one of five economic development initiatives launched by the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, a group of 55 executives of Indiana’s large corporations and universities. The others are BioCrossroads for life sciences, TechPoint for information technology, Energy Systems Network for clean energy and AgriNovus for agriculture.
