Park Tudor High School has hired an attorney to conduct an independent investigation into a former basketball coach accused of trying to entice a 15-year-old student into a sexual relationship.

Thirty-one-year-old Kyle Cox faces federal charges of coercion and enticement. Cox was also a chemistry teacher at Park Tudor, one of Indiana's most prestigious private schools.

He's accused of sending sexually explicit online messages, texts and photos to the student and trying to arrange for her to visit his home in the suburb of Fishers for sexual activity in mid-December. He has not yet entered a plea.

Park Tudor's board of directors said in a letter to parents and faculty Friday that attorney Larry Mackey will also review the school's handling of the matter.

The 30-page criminal complaint filed in Cox’s case said the school impeded authorities after they launched their inquiry.

The document said the school and the school's attorney received copies of sexually explicit photos and text messages from the victim's father on Dec. 14 but did not turn them over to authorities until Jan. 7, when a search warrant was served at the school.

In addition, the school signed a confidentiality agreement with Cox on Dec. 15 that stated he was resigning and barred him from discussing the reasons. It also allowed him to take a school computer home that day to remove “personal” files, according to the complaint.
