Some events to get your week's A&E planning off to a good start.

 

“Carmen”

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra winds up its season with a semi-staged performance of George Bizet’s “Carmen.” Mezzo-soprano Oksana Volkova and tenor Evan Bowers take the leads, with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir adding to the mix.

“Genius to the Beat of Soul”

Jeffrey Page, choreographer of the Broadway musical “Violet,” returns to Indianapolis—where he worked with Asante Children’s Theatre—to direct and choreograph this original production. The original musical concerns a young woman who draws on her family’s history of struggle to deal with bullying and feelings of abandonment.

ComedySportz World Championship

Funny folks from around the country—including squads from L.A., NYC, Chicago and Boise—converge on Indianapolis to compete in family-friendly improvisational comedy competitions. Indy hometown favorites play every day but Friday, leading up to finals at 10:00

Conner Prairie’s Curiosity Fair, June 11-12, features Tony Hoard and his K9 Crew from America’s Got Talent as well as a new this year Sportz Zone featuring interactives by local sports teams.

Independent Music + Art Festival June 11 packs Delaware and 15 sts. with, well, music and art.

Beatbox/spoken word artist Tony Styxx performs at The Commonground at Eskenazi Health June 7.

The Lumineers take over the Murat on June 11, turning it over to The Monkees June 12.
