Gov. Mike Pence is seeking applicants for an open seat on the five-member Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
The powerful agency hears hundreds of utility cases a year and regulates $14 billion worth of electric, natural gas, telecommunications, steam, water and sewer utilities.
The cases affect millions of ratepayers and dozens of utilities. The job pays about $115,000 a year.
The opening was created by the resignation of Commissioner Carolene Mays-Medley, who stepped down in April to accept an appointment as executive director of the White River State Park Development Commission. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2017. The state is behind schedule in finding a replacement.
A nominating committee is soliciting applications through July 20. Applications can be obtained by emailing boardsandcommissions@gov.in.gov or by visiting www.in.gov/gov/2682.htm.
The application requires candidates to list their education, professional background and financial holdings. It includes this item: “Please consider carefully, and disclose, whether there are any incidents in or aspects of your personal or professional life which, if they became the subject of public attention, might cause embarrassment to you or to the Governor. These matters may include, but are not limited to, abuse of alcohol or use of illegal drugs, financial matters, sexual conduct, or accusations of illegal or unethical conduct.”
The committee will interview applications Aug. 5, and present Pence with a list of three finalists, from which he will select a commissioner.
