Eric Neuburger has been hired as director of Lucas Oil Stadium, becoming just the second person to oversee the city's pro football facilities since the debut of the Indianapolis Colts in 1984.

Neuburger, 36, replaces Mike Fox, who for 33 years had been the director of Lucas Oil Stadium and its predecessor, the Hoosier Dome. Fox departed last month to take a job as director of facilities for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

If Neuburger’s name sounds familiar that’s because he’s the son of former IUPUI Natatorium director and Indiana Sports Corp. president Dale Neuburger. His first day on his new job is Monday.

Eric Neuburger has spent the last decade working senior associate athletic director for administration and external alliances at Indiana University in Bloomington. There, he reported to IU Athletic Director Fred Glass, a former president of the Marion County Capital Improvement Board. The CIB owns and oversees Lucas Oil Stadium.

At IU, Neuburger was responsible for capital planning and operational management of IU’s athletic facilities, including Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium. At IU, he also was responsible for external revenue generating partnerships with sponsors, licensees and other partners. He managed all home events for all of IU’s 24 varsity sports and served as director of operations for the IU Golf Course.

Before working for IU, Neuburger was executive director for the Indiana Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness & Sports from 2004-07.

He has an undergraduate degree in public affairs and a law degree from IU. He also earned an MBA and masters of sports administration from Ohio University.

“Eric is an individual who is a Hoosier and has deep roots here. He has a great education and learned from one of the best under Fred Glass at IU,” said CIB Executive Director Barney Levengood. “We think Eric has the right background and experience to fill Mike’s very big shoes.”

At his new job, Neuburger oversees Lucas Oil Stadium operations and is in charge of coordinating all events held there.

Neuburger was not available for comment Monday.
