Then: Indiana Economic Development Corp. executive vice president & general counsel

Now: Home Health Depot co-owner, president & CEO

Age: 47

Nate Feltman had practiced law in Moscow, Chicago and Indianapolis and served as Indiana secretary of commerce. But he’d always wanted to be in business for himself. So in 2010, when his law client David Hartley offered him the opportunity to buy into Home Health Depot, he jumped.

“I thought this was the right time in my life and the right kind of opportunity,” Feltman said. “It’s also in health care. After spending four years in public service and then going back into law, I missed the feeling of doing something rewarding and helping others.”

From 2010 to 2015, the home-medical-equipment supplier grew from 25 employees to 260 and from two locations in Indiana to 20 in six states. It also made five acquisitions and landed on IBJ’s Fast 25 list twice.

The company has since sold a couple of divisions that didn’t fit its mission, but Feltman said its growth continues.

“It’s been a busy seven years,” he said.•
