The Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday are expected to announce the relocation of their annual training camp to Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield.

Team officials and officials from Westfield have scheduled a morning press conference to reveal “a major partnership that will make Westfield a destination for sports fans beyond youth sports,” the team said Tuesday in a press release.

Several news outlets, citing unnamed sources, said the announcement involves a new home for the Colts’ annual summer training camp.

Westfield Mayor Andy Cook, Colts General Manager Chris Ballard and Colts Chief Operating Officer Pete Ward are scheduled to attend the event at Grand Park Events Center.

The Colts traditionally conduct training camp from late July to mid-August. This year, for the first time, the team held camp at its practice facility on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

But the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center, 7001 W. 56th St., does not contain seating for spectators, so practices were closed to the public. The team added a pair of open practices at Warren Central High School and Lucas Oil Stadium for the general public.

Since moving to Indianapolis in 1984, the Colts have held camps at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (1999-2009) in Terre Haute and Anderson University (1984-1998 and 2010-2016) in Anderson.

The camp was a tourism driver for Anderson but crowds had waned in recent years.

The 400-acre Grand Park campus contains 26 baseball and softball diamonds and 31 multipurpose fields for soccer, football, and lacrosse. It also has two large indoor multi-sport facilities.
