Subscribe NowThe University of Evansville unveiled what it has named the Changemaker Incubator to try to accelerate the growth of social-enterprise startups by providing space for entrepreneurs to gather, exchange ideas, connect with mentors, and collaborate with community partners.
“Developing entrepreneurial ideas that make a difference in the world is something that resonates well with this generation of young people, and the impact they will make is profound,” says Jill Griffin, executive director for the Institute of Global Enterprise, in a written statement.
“We are delighted about the possibilities this incubator space will provide for these Changemakers who are tackling important issues and offering fresh perspectives and innovative solutions.”
Hafer, an Evansville-based design and architecture firm, worked with students to design the space. The design is meant to promote creativity and collaboration. Walls are covered with marker paint and the furniture and walls are flexible and meant to be moved. It is also equipped with technology to handle long-distance and virtual meetings.
Jack Faber, the firm’s principal, said it’s in creative spaces that “students will come to solve problems and dream in ways we never imagined.”
Funding for the space came from a $20,000 Ball Venture Fund.•
