A report from BIO/TEConomy shows that the Indianapolis/Carmel/Anderson metro area lags only these four regions: New York and Newark (31,793), Chicago-Naperville-Elgin (18,317), San Francisco-Oakland (16,153), and Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington (14,576).
Central Indiana is home to pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co., along with numerous contract research organizations, suppliers and testers. The region also ranked sixth nationally for agricultural feedstock and chemicals.
Among all states, Indiana ranks ninth for bioscience-related patents granted per capita. All figures are for 2016.•
