Salesforce.org announced Thursday it will partner with Indiana University to bring its annual higher education conference to Indianapolis in 2020.

The organization—the philanthropic arm of Salesforce—will host the Higher Ed Summit from April 29-May 1, 2020, downtown at the JW Marriott Indianapolis hotel. It will be the eighth year for the event.

The summit is expected to bring together more than 2,500 leaders from colleges, universities and technology firms.

"Indiana University is delighted that Salesforce.org has selected Indianapolis and IU for the rapidly growing Higher Ed Summit for colleges and universities,” IU’s vice president of information technology, Brad Wheeler, said in a written statement.

“IU is leading the largest multi-campus use of Salesforce flagship products to help students complete their academic journey, then stay connected as IU alumni. It is especially gratifying that IU will co-host thousands of our peers during [IU’s] bicentennial year.”

The 2019 Higher Ed Summit in San Diego—co-hosted by the University of San Diego—is Thursday. It includes demonstrations and workshops geared at using Salesforce products in higher-ed settings as well as keynote speeches from leaders in education and technology.

Among the key speakers in San Diego were Tara Westover, an author known for the book “Educated”; former NBA star Magic Johnson; and William McRaven, a retired United States Navy admiral who served as chancellor of the University of Texas System.

Previous summit locations have included Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas.

A spokeswoman for Salesforce said the organization chose to host its 2020 conference in Indianapolis in part because it is the second largest hub for the company’s employees. More than 1,500 Salesforce employees work in the city, many on the Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
