Yesterday’s action by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission is only the second such denial in the 29 years gambling has been legalized in the state. The casino can stay open while Columbia Sussex finds a buyer, according to the Associated Press and Evansville Courier & Press.
The company is in discomfort in Indiana, too.
The Indiana Gaming Commission in March plans to consider an investigation requested by Evansville Mayor Jonathon Weinzapfel into whether the casino has kept a commitment to retain a certain number of workers. Nearly 100 workers have lost jobs since Columbia Sussex acquired the casino last year. The casino had about 1,200 employees.
Last month, game dealers and full-time supervisors voted to join the United Auto Workers Union.
