The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved once-daily use of Cialis, the anti-impotence pill made by Eli Lilly and Co., the Indianapolis drugmaker announced today. The once-daily version is a lower dose designed to allow men to have sex at any time between doses. It already has been available in parts of Europe.
Since 2003, Lilly has sold Cialis as an as-needed medication for erectile dysfunction. It is effective for up to 36 hours.
Lilly developed Cialis with Icos Corp. and then acquired Icos in January 2007. The drug racked up sales of $870 million during the first nine months of 2007, a 24 percent increase over the same period the year before.
