As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowA planned merger of Bloomington Hospital into Indianapolis-based Clarian Health was approved 403-149 last night by the Bloomington facility’s governing body, the Local Council of Women.
The Local Council, which founded the hospital more than 100 years ago, had to revise hospital bylaws to clear the way for the merger. Clarian will receive 51 percent of the board representation, according to The Herald-Times of Bloomington.
As is the case with other alignments around the country, the 355-bed Bloomington Hospital wants to link with Clarian, the state’s largest hospital system, to boost access to financial and professional resources.
A merger also is expected to help Bloomington Hospital sift decisions as it considers building a new hospital near state roads 46 and 37. Community forums will be held in the coming year to discuss the issue.
