Trump and Braun are “Resoundingly reexamining the environmental factors driving the shift away from coal”. I’m so reassured by their scientific prowess, and I suggest burying our heads in the sand is not a sustainable practice.
Considering all the AI and server farms that are being approved in Indiana and their high energy and water requirements, more electricity capacity is necessary. We should be encouraging the additional capacity, even Gov. Braun has stated has is concerned about their being enough electricity capacity in the state for future growth.
While at it we should be encouraging the switch to less polluting fuel sources, preferable solar and wind, but natural gas is definitely better than coal.
Any advances comes with a cost up front. However, it is most likely that a natural gas plant has lower maintenca and fuel costs compared to a coal power plant. Over the decades that a power plant would be used, the savings could possibly be greater than the initial costs for building the plants.
The OUCC needs to go back and look at the costs associated with doing nothing and with doing the switch by Duke Energy over the life of the new plants, and not just the initial costs.
