Chief Technology Officer, Authenticx

Major company achievements during tenure: As chief technology officer at Authenticx, Michael Armstrong leads the product innovation team, builds and scales its platform, innovates and evolves the company’s approach to AI, and more. He’s scaled both a team and product to accommodate an influx of new users and data. “We’ve built a true big-data platform that processed 100TB of data in the last 12 months,” he said. He grew the platform from less than 100 users to more than 10,000 and from thousands to millions of processed weekly interactions, while also tripling the size of the product innovation team. “Authenticx has landed large, enterprise clients due to this ability to adapt quickly to client demands, resulting in [triple] revenue growth in 2021.”

Challenge faced: “The team has tackled enormous data management challenges, while simultaneously innovating and rolling out brand-new features that have included machine-learning models, proprietary dashboards, data redaction, voice obfuscation, and other options for privacy. We’ve faced the challenge of redefining AI and creating new features to meet our clients’ needs.”

First computer: IBM 486

The road: “My entire career has involved working with data. I’ve worked in big corporate enterprises, midlevel businesses, and co-founding startups with a focus in forecasting, business intelligence and product development.”

Go-to app: weather

Favorite gadget: internal combustion engines

My job would be easier if … “people shed their ‘fear of failure’ to pursue new, bold ideas. I feel lucky to be surrounded by a talented team of individuals that challenge me to think about new, innovative ideas daily.”

Free time: “I play a lot of pickup basketball, spend time in my garden and hang out with my kids.”•
