  1. well, not…it does something. It will allow the automakers to continue to make very expensive gas guzzling vehicles (as preferred by certain Indiana government officials) and allow the oil companies to sell more gasoline.

It will also encourage the auto industry to continue to fall behind the rest of the world when it comes to designing and ramping up for electric cars and less expensive cars.

    1. Compared to the 50 mpg that Japanese and Korean sedans get and the cheap EVs that China is churning out, 35 mph is gas guzzling.

  2. Great Decision! – I just drove a Chinese BYD hybrid last week in the UK and got 60mpg in a mid-size SUV. I’m sure we can export millions of our Chevy’s and Jeeps to the whole world because because any thinking person with a brain Cleary prefers to get the fewest miles per gallon consume more fuel and pay higher prices. Yeah, right! Good luck with that, suckers, if this is what you voted for (eye-roll). Goodbye more American auto production jobs….

  3. Americans have shown they are not ready to ditch ICE cars. You take the Federal subsidies away and sales drop. The American consumer wants SUVs and trucks. They want vehicles that can drive cross country without having to stop every 300 miles for a 30 minute to hour recharge. When the industry gets there, ICE vehicles will go away. Until then, American consumers will favor ICE.

All higher CAFE standards do is force automakers to produce cars people don’t want.

    34MPG is not gas guzzling.

    1. The industry will never get there. They won’t exist by then. Your options for vehicles will be electric cars made by Chinese companies.

Trump is dooming us for decades with this decison. Don’t believe me. Listen to Ford’s CEO Jim Farley:

“The challenge for Ford and other automakers outside of China goes far beyond AI assistants. Thanks to massive government subsidies, vertical integration and other factors, Chinese firms have built up immense EV manufacturing scale and driven costs down. What’s perhaps even more worrisome to carmakers trying to compete with Chinese offerings in markets around the world: The cars may be cheap, but they don’t feel like it.

“And even beyond that, their cost, their quality of their vehicles is far superior to what I see in the West,” Farley continued. “We are in a global competition with China, and it’s not just EVs. And if we lose this we do not have a future at Ford.”

    2. 34 mpg is gas guzzling on the international market. It’s why the USA has completely lost auto sales outside of the domestic market. And this kind of attitude is why we are are dying power.
