  1. Farmers should not get government subsidies to shield them from the consequences of how they voted. They knew exactly how tariffs would play out and still voted for them.

    1. $28 billion in 2018-19 and $12 billion in 2025 – somehow this admin will spin that as progress or “winning”.

  2. The monopolies in farming and live stock industry are destroying the American farmer. Subsidies (for the consequences they saw coming) only benefit the corporations behind the monopolies. It’s a negative feed-back loop.

  3. I wonder if Trump will demand the right to dictate what farmers plant, and how many head of cattle they bring on, as he does with steel production and the other industries which he has subsidized with our money.
I understand why he likes Putin so much…Trump and his MAGAts have adopted oligarchy, if not socialism. We are now Russia…

  4. Years ago we had Farm Aid to help farmers stay afloat during hard times. People understood the struggles farmers had and sympthized with their situation. Not anymore! They vote as a block knowing full well that the policies of the person they’re voting for will harm their businesses but then get bailouts from the tax payers. Disgusting.

  5. Because Trump screwed-up (like so many of his Secretaries) and will not take responsibility for the scew-up (like so many of his Secretaries) what should no have been an issue has now become a taxpayer bailout.

  6. So we the consumer get higher prices for goods that are coming in from overseas, and then our tax dollars are going to pay the farmers for the difference? The consumer gets screwed twice. As always. Lovely. And is this going to be an annual thing? Because I do not see these shenanigans going away for the next 3 years.

    1. It’s almost as bad as the taxpayers giving people $7,500 towards the purchase of an electric vehicle right?

    2. But, Rhea, this must be “fake news” because tariffs were supposed to lower prices and help American farmers, right?

  7. Payoffs for Trump’s rural base. The same people who decry “welfare programs” are on the dole. Except the threshold for receiving this welfare is $900,000 AGI. Seriously? Seriously.
