I quit taking the UAW seriously when they asked to work 32 hour weeks while being paid for 40 hours…. what a joke.
Agreed.
I want a 46% pay increase to work 20% less. Let them strike and feel the pain.
Do the manufacturers get to offer decrease of cost of living adjustments? And why on earth would a retiree get a pay increase?
The auto industry is going into a new chapter. The UAW thinks it doesn’t require sacrifices, job loss, and different skill sets. I bet the negotiations are stalled because of the none union battery plants. It’s crack in there defense and probably a necessary one as we shift to EV production.
I’m more sympathetic to the UAW than, say, the utterly corrupt teachers unions or other public sector unions. (Even SAF-AFTRA deserves more sympathy than the AFT.) But c’mon: the decline of the UAW since its peak in the 1950s is as bad, or probably WORSE, than those sleazy teachers unions. The Ford Taurus hasn’t been the quintessential American car for over 30 years. Auto unions don’t even have a lot of sway in Michigan, and virtually all car manufacturers in the last 25 years have opened in the right-to-work south.
What is it, beyond greed, that convinces these legacy unions that they still have this much bargaining power? Ego, I guess.
Lauren B.
+1
The sense of entitlement by the UAW is unbelievable.
Let them strike!! The Big Three should not cave to blackmail.
This is the results of companies giving employees way too much leverage. Yes pay and treat your employees good but you never ever give up your leverage. Unfortunatly this has to often become the trend nationwide in other sectors of the economy. My only question is, when does it all end with employees wanting more and more from a company they never put a dime in to create?
