The Indianapolis Zoo has canceled this year’s Zoobilation fundraising event, which had already been postponed to Aug. 14 to accommodate social distancing due the coronavirus.

The zoo told volunteers on Tuesday that the decision was made to “support the health and safety of our community.”

Questions regarding ticket donations or refunds can be directed to Zoobilation@IndyZoo.com.

The black-tie Zoobilation party is an annual event that last year raised $2.5 million to help pay for care of the zoo’s 1,300 animals and 47,000 plants, as well as its global conservation initiatives.

This year’s party was to celebrate the opening of its Tembo Camp space for elephants.

The zoo said it has scheduled its 2021 Zoobilation event for June 11.

    1. Agreed – we are a supplier of the coasters and its a big loss as well. I hope sponsors continue with their support, even though it has been cancelled.

    1. Steve R., if only we could meet and place a wager, say $5,000, on that silly comment. We’d need a escrow agent and a lawyer to draft up the ground rules. Game?

    2. This won’t go away because the same bozos who won’t wear a mask are going to be the same bozos who won’t get the vaccine because “it’s just distilled chemtrails and George Soros and Bill Gates have put a tracking chip in the shot” or other such nonsense.

  1. I’ll take the bet, Horatio. The bet is this though: if Biden wins, I bet the CNN Covid Ticker is gone In 7 days post election by November 11th. If you want that bet, I’ll make it tomorrow.

Disclaimer: if the vote by mail BS strangles the election results and draws this circus out longer than November 4th, I will defer to 7 days after the winner is announced.

    1. Ryan H., so your response is that the issue IS real, but that CNN is making too much of it? COVID is not going away Nov 3rd, or anytime in the next 6-12-18 months without either an effective treatment or a vaccine. No matter who is President. If it’s Biden, it will be better managed with less death.

    2. As soon as it isn’t propagated by MSM, it’s dead. No significant death rate compared to other causes of death. So, yes, the Rona dies with the Biden election like H1N1 and Ebola did under Obama when the czar shut the media down.

Gladly make the $5k wager with terms above. The new IBJ owner can escrow the money until election night.
