long-ailing Indianapolis company. With a new business strategy built on franchising and dual-branded restaurants, Noble Roman’s
has seen quarter-to-quarter earnings increase for more than two years.

Minority hiring on track: Stadium, airport projects meeting most goals

September 3, 2007

Two of the city’s largest and most visible construction projects so far have committed roughly $300 million in contracts to minority and women business owners-a healthy sum that has the owners meeting most of their obligations. The $1.1 billion midfield terminal at the Indianapolis International Airport and the $700 million Lucas Oil Stadium are on pace to be finished the second half of 2008. All told, that’s roughly $1.8 billion in construction contracts that ultimately will be awarded. With 80…

Will hefty Hoosiers get up for green, healthy event?: Former producer of state flower and patio show plans first-ever Natural Living Expo in January

September 3, 2007

Todd Jameson knows how to get Hoosiers off the sofa. Up until two years ago, he was producer of the Indiana Flower and Patio Show and the Christmas Gift and Hobby Show-two of the most popular annual events in Indianapolis. But a dollar to a cholesterol-laden doughnut says his next gig will be his most difficult: getting some of the nation’s heaviest, most cigarette-addicted people off the couch and to the firstever Natural Living Expo, next January. Jameson figures the…

When it comes to LEED, Indiana trailing: But area designers, contractors see green progress

September 3, 2007

No environmentalist would mistake Indianapolis for the poster child of green building, but local designers and contractors are preparing themselves to capture a market they expect will become an integral piece of their portfolios. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standard, better known as LEED, is a benchmark of sorts for designing, building and operating environmentally friendly buildings. At least 16 projects in the metropolitan area are seeking the LEED certification, but only one so far has achieved green…

24-year-old developer tackles $30M deal

September 10, 2007

Jaron Garrett hasn’t developed anything like the 25-story tower he’s proposing. And he doesn’t come close to having the financial
muscle to pull off the $30 million project on his own. But Garrett is determined to sell his vision of transforming a downtown
eyesore at Washington and Pennsylvania streets into a twisting glass-and-steel apartment tower.

EYE ON THE PIE: Here’s where Hoosiers get it right

September 10, 2007

We don’t have to be obsessed with property taxes. All is not dreadful despite the clamor of some disaffected taxpayers. For example, La-Porte has two operating barbershops on the same street downtown. This warms the heart. Equally positive is finding an excellent housing stock in LaPorte, with many beautiful homes painted in a joyous, imaginative fashion. Can you believe the McDonald’s in Winamac opens at 4:30 a.m. and keeps its drive-through open 24 hours a day? That alone suggests a…

Post-bankruptcy turnaround not taking off for ATA

September 10, 2007

the parent of ATA Airlines still finds landing a profit elusive. Indianapolis-based Global Aero Logistics posted a loss of
$46.1 million in the first half of 2007, according to documents it filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On Job Front, At Least Indiana Isn’t Michigan

September 12, 2007

As Gov. Mitch Daniels travels to Japan this week in search of job commitments, he can take some comfort that, if the state fails to pull out of its static employment status, there’s always Michigan to point to. Not much is going well for Indiana’s northern neighbor. At a time most states are piling in […]

area.

Relocation survey says: ‘Go [Mid]west,’ young executive: Companies are sending more of their employees to the region; overseas transfers are also on the increase

September 17, 2007

Midwestern cities are unlikely to top the list of vacationing hot spots, but they are a popular destination for relocating employees. That’s the consensus from the latest Corporate Relocation Survey conducted annually by Evansville-based Atlas World Group, whose largest subsidiary is Atlas Van Lines, the second-largest interstate motor carrier in the United States. The study revealed that nearly a third of firms, 29 percent, are sending more employees to the Midwest than any other part of the country. Surprisingly, the…
