But the eighth quadrennial event also includes something new after they’ve all performed. At the finals, while the judges are deliberating, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Zach De Pue will “blind” test both a contemporary violin and its old-school equivalent to see if audiences can actually tell the difference—and which they prefer.
