Airport contractor accused of faulty work in New York

May 5, 2008

An Indianapolis firm helping oversee construction of the city’s $1.2 billion midfield terminal is facing accusations from
Southwest Airlines that it failed to ensure the quality of a $12.4 million concrete apron at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Airline meltdown creates minimal impact – so far: But potential route cutbacks a concern at airport

April 28, 2008

Two airlines that filed bankruptcy this month might cost creditor Indianapolis International Airport $1 million, airport financial records indicate. And high jet fuel prices that helped doom ATA Airlines and sent Frontier Airlines restructuring this month could become a bigger blip on Indianapolis’ radar later, if airline dominoes keep falling. The health of airlines that fly here bears watching because Indianapolis needs to sustain strong revenue streams from airline rents and fees to cover the cost of the $1.2 billion…

Southwest adds non-stop flights to Denver

April 24, 2008

Southwest Airlines will launch non-stop service to Denver, apparently smelling blood from bankrupt Frontier Airlines, which has flown the route from Indianapolis since 2005. Dallas-based Southwest will begin nonstop daily service to Denver on June 4. The carrier is the fourth-busiest at Indianapolis International, with 12.1 percent of traffic in 2007. Currently it offers 17 […]

Republic Airways profit edges up

April 24, 2008

Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc. generated $20.2 million in profit in the first quarter, a slight increase from the $19.3 million from a year earlier. Commentary: Remember better days at ATA

April 21, 2008

On ATA, you’re on vacation. That catchy tag line from the past has taken on new meaning to the 600 or so Indianapolis employees who were abruptly and unceremoniously terminated April 3 when the airline shut down for good. The singsong melody that accompanied those words in ATA’s marketing is now a dissonant tune for them and the thousands of ticketed passengers who were left stranded. The airline whose name and jingle once evoked images of fun in the sun,…

Under Grueninger, Ambassadair division chartering growth

April 21, 2008

Michael Grueninger, president of Grueninger Travel Group, has learned since his company bought Ambassadair in 2005 from now-defunct
ATA Airlines that many travelers once enamored with dirt-cheap fares they can book online want something more than low price.
They are willing to pay for service.

BEHIND THE NEWS: Out of the spotlight, Indy’s other airline soaring

April 14, 2008

ATA Airlines may have crashed and burned. But the other Indianapolis carrier is flying high. Republic Airways Holdings Inc. earned $83 million in 2007, and profit might approach $100 million this year, according to the investment firm Raymond James. Revenue cracked $1 billion in 2006 and might surpass $1.5 billion this year. This at a time analysts are wringing their hands over which airline might be next to go bankrupt and cease operations. Skybus, Aloha Airlines and the hometown airline…

One Indiana Square owner sues insurer over storm-damage repairs

April 14, 2008

The owners of a downtown skyscraper badly damaged in a 2006 storm are suing their insurance company after it halted payments
on a facade-replacement project. The suit, filed April 1, accuses the insurance company of a “bad faith” attempt to avoid
paying for repairs to the 36-story One Indiana Square building at the northeast corner of Pennsylvania and Ohio streets.

ATA plan ticks off terminated pilots, attendants

April 14, 2008

Former ATA Airlines employees are trying to comb the wreckage of the bankrupt carrier, looking to grab their financial belongings
before managers and lenders cart off what little is left. Pilots and flight attendants are opposing retention bonuses for
managers who will spend the next several months turning out the lights of the 35-year-old carrier.

Former ATA worker files class-action lawsuit

April 9, 2008

An ATA Airlines employee who was fired April 3, when the Indianapolis-based regional carrier filed bankruptcy and ceased operations, is suing the company for back pay. The class action filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court by Kevin Batman claims ATA violated federal law by terminating more than 1,000 workers without giving a 60-day written notice. ATA […]

About that other airline

April 4, 2008

As postmortems fly on ATAâ??s second, and final, nosedive into bankruptcy, another Indianapolis airline is
doing
a lot better and getting hardly any attention.

Republic Airways Holdings Inc. isnâ??t a household name because it quietly flies regional routes on…

UPDATE: Five parties spurned ATA offer

April 3, 2008

The owners of ATA Airlines talked to five interested buyers early this year in a desperate attempt to sell the troubled airline. But FedEx Corp. in January unexpectedly cancelled ATA’s contract to carry military personnel, scuttling any sale and pushing ATA into liquidation. The company filed the Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition last night in Indianapolis. […]

Would you miss ATA?

April 3, 2008

Barring a small miracle, ATA Airlines is dead, now that itâ??s lost a major military contract.

The carrier was headquartered in Indianapolis until it moved to the Atlanta area late last year.

How big a blow would ATAâ??s demise be…

BREAKING: ATA bankrupt again

ATA Airlines Inc. said today it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, just two years after emerging from a bankruptcy filed in 2004. All operations were discontinued as of 4 a.m. today, the carrier said, meaning ticket holders will need to find alternatives. ATA had previously discontinued scheduled flights from Indianapolis. The filing means […]

The chief executive officer of ATA Airlines’ parent company, Global Aero Logistics, has resigned, according to the Peachtree City, Ga., company. Insurance insecurities: Data-breach policies touted as way to protect businesses from cyber-related losses

March 3, 2008

Several local entities, ranging from St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital to the state of Indiana to Indianapolis Public Schools, last year experienced wellpublicized electronic security breaches involving confidential data. While the victims of the lapses and those at fault emerged relatively unscathed, such incidents underscore the ease in which personal information can be lost or stolen in today’s computerized world. With roughly 165 million people tapping into to the Internet nationally, the opportunities for security breaches are plentiful. Throw in the…

State goes from first to last in catastrophes: Indiana sails through 2007 without a single large weather event, rebounding from hailstorm of claims in 2006

March 3, 2008

Indiana weather is notorious for the volatile swings it can produce from one day to the next. Just this month, high temperatures in Indianapolis fluctuated about 40 degrees within 48 hours. The disparity in major storm damage that befell the state the past two years is quite unusual, though, even by Hoosier standards. Statewide property losses totaled $1.5 billion in 2006, the most in the nation, due in large part to what’s become known as the Good Friday hailstorm. Last…
