I wish Butler would add rather than reduce parking. It’s nearly impossible to find a convenient parking place if you’re a visitor or townie student without a parking permit. Parking at the Fieldhouse or the parking garage necessitates a walk across campus in the weather, discouraging visits to Atherton Center and bookstore sales and classroom attendance for older students and others with mobility issues. It was a mistake to remove street parking around the north-south and east-west grassy malls – both of which still afforded insufficient parking when enrollment was lower than it is now. Here’s hoping campus leaders will add convenient parking every time they add new buildings and programs to serve more students, adjunct professors, alums, prospective students, and other visitors.
