Subscribe NowThe Indianapolis Department of Public Works will close Indiana Avenue from Blackford to West streets from Thursday afternoon until Monday afternoon to accommodate the painting of a street mural that will say “Black Lives Matter,” the DPW announced Wednesday.
The Indianapolis City-County Council earlier this month approved the mural and asked DPW to supervise.
The mural will be painted by black visual artists, with the supplies donated to the effort by the Indianapolis Urban League.
Traffic headed northwest on Indiana Avenue should use West Street/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, 11th Street, 10th Street and University Boulevard to avoid the road closure.
Traffic headed southeast should use University Boulevard, New York Street and West Street.

Ridiculous that our city is spending taxpayer money to paint a political slogan on our streets – I am sure they wouldn’t do it if were say pro-life or pro 2nd Amendment groups that requested it. It’s a meaningless bit of virtue signaling and speaks to the shallowness of our political leaders/losers.
Amazing isn’t it how we keep voting for these people that pander to these groups with other people’s money.

If they are going to paint this, they need to paint it on Post Road between 38th and 42nd Streets. Black lives get snuffed out all the time in this vicinity and no one says anything about THESE black lives. But we can check another box off because we painted “Black Lives Matter” downtown. Whatever!
