  1. I’m sure cities and towns will be shocked to find they have all the money they need as everyone is moving out of much of Indiana to live near Indianapolis.

Huston, best I can tell, still believes in trickle down economics which should trouble everyone since trickle down has been debunked. He just wants to repeat the mistakes of Kansas, which cut taxes to spur growth and instead went broke. Tax cuts alone won’t work, we need to invest in the future.

Here’s a thought – there are areas around Indiana which are where Hoosiers are moving to, like Carmel and Zionsville and Fishers and Avon and Plainfield and Greenwood and Center Grove. Learn the lessons from what those areas are doing (all led by Republicans, IIRC) and repeat that across the state.

Yet another tax cut is just another admission that the GOP doesn’t think Indiana has a future worth investing in. Heck, the READI grants ended up being underfunded by 1 billion dollars. Start with giving all the areas who applied the money to finish their plans.

  2. “Trickle down” is a Democratic National Committee code phrase to denigrate the rising tide of economic prosperity that lifts all boats. It is their attempt to say government has to direct economic activity. It has been “debunked” for those who want it to be debunked.

  3. How about leaving taxes alone and use the budget surplus to tackle some issues?? Here are a few ideas: Homelessness, crime (especially violent crime), roads, sidewalks, better pay for teachers

    1. Great idea! All of these are real issues… I regularly fight through 4 way stops that are 50 cars deep… not exagerating here. They keep building in Franklin Township yet the roads are the same as they were 18 years ago when I moved there.
violent crime is a daily story on the news, homeless camps are all too frequent. There are plenty of good investments to be made with these dollars.

    2. Keep voting for Aaron Freeman, who’s more worried about stopping IndyGo from expanding to get poor people to work (and off the government dole) than he is helping his constituents.

  4. A tax refund is just as good as a tax cut – but if Indiana officials are going to tell me they can’t think of any good ways to spend that money to benefit our State, they must not have spent much time outside of their gated communities lately.

  5. I still don’t understand why the idea of trickle down economics still has has hold of Republican leaders. I know you might accidentally help Hoosier Democratic voters, but push this money down to the towns and cities where infrastructure is crumbling because of property tax caps.

  6. I would prefer the State lower the state sales tax by 1c and allow localities to pick it up. Indianapolis being able to collect a 1c sales tax would be a huge boon to the City and public services.
