The other half of Gun Safety is School Safety; Below is the second part and suggested School Safety Legislation.
FOR SCHOOL SAFETY:
1. ONE ENTRY AND ONE EXIT TO BE EQUIPPED WITH METAL DETECTORS AS IN AIRPORTS
2. A GUARD STATIONED AT THE ENRANCE DURING SCHOOL STARTS AND SCHOOL OVER FOR THE DAY/ DOORS MUST BE LOCKED AFTER START AND END OF DAY.
3. DOORS TO SCHOOL NEED PANIC HARDWARE IN NEED OF URGENT OR EMERGENCY EXITS I.E FIRE OR OTHER EMERGENT ISSUES.
4. ANY AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE SUPERVISED WITH A GUARD AT START AND TERMINATION OF ACTIVITY.
5. ANYONE REQUESTING A VISIT TO SCHOOL I.E PARENTS ETC, NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND UPON ARRIVAL PRODUCE VERIFIED I.D.
These are really awful policy recommendations (and extremely dangerous; one ingress/egress point is not legal under existing fire codes).
Guns are tools. There are other tools, like cars, and chemicals, that can cause a lot of damage in a hurry.
The real issue is the abuser who decides he wants a moment of “glory”. When will society start to look in the mirror at the glorification of violence Hollywood style? When does society demand the daily rehtoric be calmed down?
So far, media promotes the violence and rhetoric as advertising profit pours in.
Each group tries to inflame its supporters until someone decides to “do something about it”.
When society says enough, then maybe the media oligarchs will listen.
Until then we start with limiting the 2nd amendment, and then we can look for limits on some of the others, such as press, probable cause, and habeas corpus.
But telling people to chill and pray falls on very deaf ears these day.
I suggest we raise the age to purchase a firearm to 21. And then since 18 year olds aren’t mature enough to buy alcohol or guns… we raise the voting age and the military service age to 21 as well… solves lots of problems.
