Rokita lands job with Indianapolis health benefits company

Former Republican Congressman Todd Rokita has landed a new job.

Rokita, who represented Indiana’s 4th district from 2010-2018 and served as Indiana secretary of state from 2002-2010, has taken a job as general counsel and vice president of external affairs for Apex Benefits.

Indianapolis-based Apex Benefits helps employers find ways to lower healthcare costs.

Rokita did not seek re-election to his congressional seat last year to instead to run for U.S. Senate. He lost in the Republican primary to Jasper businessman Mike Braun, who went on to defeat Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly. Rokita earned a reputation during the election for his attacks on Braun and former Republican U.S. Rep. Luke Messer, who also ran in the primary.

After graduating from law school in 1995, Rokita briefly worked in private practice before joining the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office in 1997.

During his time as secretary of state, Rokita became known for his tough enforcement of securities laws and implementation of what was then Indiana’s new voter-identification law, a statute opponents challenged all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“It’s been my highest honor to serve and fight for my fellow Hoosiers, whether at the Statehouse or in Congress. I’m eager to continue that effort with a nimble company and a team of true servant leaders,” Rokita said in a prepared statement. “Employers should have access to easy-to-understand, cost-effective healthcare solutions that help their businesses grow and improve quality of life for their employees. I look forward to continuing that fight as part of the Apex team.”
