Purdue sees 2nd-best year for donations

Purdue University says donations to the school rose by 32 percent during the past year for its second-best fundraising year on record.

Purdue says $298.8 million was donated to the university during the fiscal year that ended June 30. The only time Purdue raised more in a single year was when it collected nearly $312 million in 2003.

Among the largest donations was about $61 million in software used in microelectronic and nanoscale research and a $10 million anonymous gift for construction of the Center for Student Excellence and Leadership, The Journal & Courier reported.

Purdue President France Cordova said the fundraising totals show donors continue to support the university despite any ongoing economic troubles.
