An insurance brokerage will relocate its Fort Wayne headquarters to a new $71 million downtown mixed-use project and create 115 jobs by 2017, Mayor Tom Henry said Monday.

Ash Brokerage Corp. will move into an eight-story headquarters in a development that also will include 21,600 square feet of retail space, a parking garage and about 100 condominiums, apartments and townhomes, Henry said.

Ash will invest $19.6 million to move about 200 employees from its current headquarters in the city to the new site and add 115 sales, business administration and information technology jobs by 2017 with an average annual wage of $60,000 plus benefits, Henry and the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said.

The IEDC offered Ash $4.9 million in conditional tax credits, the agency said.

The city of Fort Wayne is investing $19.5 million in the project with an incentive package that includes land acquisition, site preparation, tax abatement and building the parking garage.

Hanning & Bean Enterprises is developing the residential portion of the project.

Construction is expected to begin in March 2014 and take nearly two years to complete.
