Philanthropists Frank and Katrina Basile will give $500,000 to the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, which launched a 25th anniversary fundraising campaign this year.

The Eiteljorg will rename its gift shop the Frank and Katrina Basile Museum Store, the museum said Monday. CEO John Vanausdall said the Basiles are the first major donors in the campaign, Project Silver Moon, which seeks to raise $5 million over the next three years for various museum upgrades and to build the endowment.

"Service is the only rent we pay for the space we occupy on this planet,” Frank Basile said in a prepared statement. “Any success or happiness we achieve in this life is only a byproduct of the service we render to other human beings. And that service can be contributions, volunteering, anything to help a nonprofit like the Eiteljorg in its worthwhile mission—a mission that we believe in.”

The gift shops of two other arts institutions—the Art Center of Indianapolis and The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel—also are named for the Basiles, who are major donors to each one.

The Eiteljorg is preparing to reprise an Ansel Adams exhibit, which Vanausdall expects to net the largest attendance in museum history. The exhibit opens March 1.
