The country's largest wire and cable manufacturer says it will expand its northern Indiana operations and add as many as 100 workers by the end of 2016.

Georgia-based Southwire Co. said Monday it will invest $2.1 million to buy and equip a new 48,000-square-foot plant in Bremen. The plant will allow the company to relocate manufacturing capacity for its original equipment manufacturing and industrial divisions from Illinois to the Marshall County town about 15 miles south of South Bend.

Southwire acquired Waukegan, Illinois-based Coleman Cable in February.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company up to $750,000 in conditional tax credits and $200,000 in training grants for the expansion. Marshall County approved additional incentives .

Southwire, founded in 1950, currently has 310 full-time workers in Indiana. It makes wire and cable used in electricity transmission and distribution.
