As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe Now84 Lumber Co. announced Wednesday that it plans to locate a components manufacturing facility in Franklin and create up to 100 new jobs by the end of 2019.
The privately held, Pennsylvania-based building materials supplier said it would invest $5.59 million to purchase, renovate and equip the former Trussway facility at 1850 North Graham Road. The 84,000-square-foot building has been vacant since 2009.
84 Lumber plans to use the facility to manufacture wood roof trusses, floor trusses and wall panels. Renovations will begin in January with installation of computerized saws, specialized jigging equipment and precision wall panel systems.
“Indiana is an important part of 84 Lumber’s continued growth and expansion,” said Maggie Hardy Magerko, president and owner of 84 Lumber, in a written statement. “The addition of the facility in Franklin will allow us to better service and provide materials to our builders in the region.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corp., the state’s commerce agency, offered 84 Lumber up to $450,000 in conditional tax credits based on the job-creation plans. The city of Franklin will consider additional incentives at the request of the Johnson County Development Corp.
The company, which currently employs more than 4,600 people across all operations in the United States, plans to begin hiring in February for plant management and production associate positions.
84 Lumber was founded in 1956 as a cash-and-carry lumber yard and expanded to serve professional contractors as well. The company operates more than 250 stores across the nation. The 84 Components division, which is locating in Franklin, was founded in 1985 and operates five plants across the country.
