Former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said on Tuesday that after interviewing for the job of Ivy Tech Community College president, he has removed his name from consideration for the role.

“Ivy Tech is truly one of our state’s premier educational organizations, and I am honored to have been a part of their search for a new president,” Ballard said in a statement.

Through spokesman Robert Vane, who worked for Ballard’s mayoral administration, Ballard said he withdrew his name for consideration because he is “pursuing several other projects and post-mayoral opportunities.” Vane said he could not specify which opportunities Ballard was pursuing.

Ballard had previously interviewed for the position sought after by other public officials, including former Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann, who resigned from her job as Gov. Mike Pence’s deputy to apply for the job.

The job is coming open because Ivy Tech president Tom Snyder is retiring.
