The head of former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' successful 2004 campaign has begun an effort to draft him to again seek the office if Donald Trump selects Gov. Mike Pence to be his running mate.

Former Angie's List CEO Bill Oesterle has created a new website and hopes to build support for a "Draft Mitch" movement.

Oesterle spokeswoman Megan Robertson says Daniels, now Purdue University's president, hasn't ruled out running for the office if Pence drops his re-election bid.

The Weekly Standard reported Monday that Daniels "hasn't said no" to the idea of running again, according to at least two unnamed sources.

Term limits barred Daniels from seeking a third consecutive term. But the Republican could run again now that he's been out of office.

A phone message seeking comment from Daniels was left at Purdue. He told the Journal & Courier of Lafayette that it wasn't appropriate for him to comment at this time.

Trump is expected to choose his running mate this week. Pence is considered a favorite.
