Veriana Networks Inc., a startup specializing in technology, media and risk management for the entertainment industry, plans to announce this afternoon that it will create 280 jobs by 2012 in its headquarters city of Marion.

Veriana will locate in a 252-acre lifestyle project also to be announced at a news conference in the city north of Muncie. The project is at Interstate 69 and State Road 18 near a new Dollar General warehouse and a new Ivy Tech Community College campus.

In a statement prepared for the announcement, co-founders Rob Swagger and R. Ross Cooper said Veriana is staying in Marion because of local and state support, low-cost utilities, the availability of fiber optics and a WiFi network, and university resources. An announcement prepared by the company didn’t specify which university is involved.

Companies under Veriana’s umbrella include Media Derivatives Inc., Impression Mobile Inc., V-Studio Inc., Swoop Adcasting Inc. and View Village Inc.

Veriana’s Web site is www.veriana.com.
