It isn’t often managers of manufacturing plants earn an affectionate editorial in the local newspaper when they move on to their next job, but that’s what Steve Brock received from the Chronicle-Tribune in Marion this morning.

Brock, who managed General Motors Corp.’s stamping plant in the city between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, not only helped bring the plant recognition for quality and productivity, but also made big contributions to improving the quality of life, the newspaper opined.

“While many people have written off … General Motors in the past decade, it hasn’t happened because of workers like we have in Marion and leaders like Steve Brock,” the Chronicle-Tribune wrote.

Now co-chair of the United Way Campaign in Grant County, Brock is leaving Nov. 1 to oversee a GM plant in Moraine, Ohio, that assembles the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and other mid-size sport-utility vehicles.

Brock will be replaced by the manager of GM’s stamping operation in Indianapolis, John Berestecki.
