A development company is buying 185 acres on the east side of Shelbyville with plans to turn it into retail space.

Shelbyville Development Group LLC is owned by Wyoming retail developer Tom Kremer along with Robert Rynard Jr. of Greensburg and Chad Middendorf of Louisville.

Kremer told The Shelbyville News that it’s too early to discuss specifics about the project.

The farmland near Interstate 74 was donated to First Presbyterian Church in 1933, and was considered for what is now the Intelliplex certified technology park. Lead by Major Hospital, the park was built north of Shelbyville.

The church property, which is valued at about $6 million, is considered prime for development because it is close to Greensburg, where Honda Manufacturing of Indiana is building a car assembly plant that will employ about 2,000.
