Cedar Run Investments LLC, owned by Indianapolis developer Tim Shrout, has received the go-ahead from the Shelby County Plan Commission to build an industrial park in Shelbyville.

The project will target suppliers to the Honda Manufacturing of Indiana plant in nearby Greensburg.

The commission voted Wednesday to rezone 100 acres from agriculture to manufacturing, according to The Shelbyville News.

The site, which is along Interstate 74, is 32 miles from the Honda plant. Honda seldom allows suppliers within 30 miles of its plants, possibly to avoid competition over workers.

Indy Partnership President Ron Gifford attended the meeting to urge the rezoning as quickly as possibly in order to lure suppliers that are scouting for sites.

An attorney for Cedar Run said the assessed value of the park could reach $48 million and generate $7.3 million in taxes.

Honda plans to begin assembling Civic compacts this fall. The $550 million facility will employ 2,000.
