Pipe dream. Never going to happen
You are correct, just posturing, leveraging and casual threats.
Who knows? Suburban Kansas City, KANSAS just pulled it off with likely the ‘sweetest’ deal of all time, essentially……FREE!
Somewhat apples to oranges. MO/KS have a long running border war, but it is the same metro area. It would be similar to the Colts “leaving” Indy for Fishers
I get it, different State and revenue implications, but to the average chiefs fan it won’t make a difference
Bears is PROBABLY a leverage play, but who knows?
Free for the team or taxpayers?
Chuck, it’s not apples and oranges at all. The Chicago metro area includes NWI just as the KC metro crosses the state line. And both “New York” teams play across the state line in the North Jersey suburbs.
Badly disguised leverage play. McCaskey’s are very pregnant with the Arlington Heights property. Nothing says you have to be bright to own an NFL franchise, just lucky enough to come from the right gene pool.
Northwest Indiana, particularly the northern half of Lake County is essentially Chicagoland, suburban Chicago. Perhaps Lake County should be part of Illinois. State Line Rd defines a jurisdictional boundary but not a different metro area. While the Indiana Toll Road is indeed nearby, access would be inconvenient unless changes were implemented. And for fans from the remainder of a vast Chicagoland, a long drive or train (?) access would be inconvenient.
And what would be the benefits to Indiana for said stadium. Long-term high paying jobs? And how much would Indiana subsidize the stadium and elements to make the stadium accessible. What revenues might fall to Indiana for this deal?
Almost a billion dollar ask for a well-off teams and players to relocate to modest NW Indiana? Is this truly a deal?
