3 thoughts on “Bill clarifies exemption to law requiring school districts to give closed buildings to charters for $1

  1. Property worth millions that have to be sold for $1 if a district wants to relocate to a new location in order to build a larger school. The law makes no sense for some of the cases that are now coming up. If a school is being shut down, then it makes sense to avoid a building being abandoned. However, if there is legitimate value in the building of hundreds of thousands of dollars (or even millions) then that value should remain with the district through reselling of the property. A law that offers the property to charters first at fair market value makes sense. $1 – no way.
